Online Resources for Pets

It's the twenty first century! This is a brand new age with a brand new way of caring for and getting information on your pets. Today, in addition to traditional methods, information can be accessed through the information superhighway. There are hundreds of websites at your disposal; the following are a few I found most interesting and helpful to you, the pet lover.

A good place to start is with the American Kennel Club's website at: AKC.org. This site gives you a wealth of information on specific breeds of dogs, in addition to caring for dogs. Similarly, the Cat Fanciers Association at cfainc.org will give you the same for cats. Looking to adopt a pet? Petfinder.org is a website dedicated to finding homes for adoptable pets across America and Canada. Along the same lines HSUS.org is the website for the Humane Society of the United States which gives invaluable information on adoption, legislation and laws pertaining to animals and disaster relief on animals in need.

Many websites are one stop shopping for your pets. Anything from beds to leashes to toys are available for you to order. Two good examples are petco.com and petsmart.com You can pick up a leather studded collar for your dog or a bouncing feather bird toy for the kitty cats - it's all available here. Are you traveling with your pet? Petswelcome.com gives helpful tips on traveling with your pet and has pet-friendly hotels, parks and B&Bs listed from all over the country.

There are also many websites dedicated to providing you with information and education on pet care and pet health. Peteducation.com and Petplace.com are good examples of this. You can access articles on various topics, research diseases and review frequently asked questions. Healthypet.com and avma.org/care4pets/ are websites maintained by two national veterinary medical associations. They are both great sites for getting medical information. Also on healthypet.com, books and other pet related literature can be ordered.

So as you can see, there is lots of information at your fingertips on a wide range of topics that interest you and your pet. You only have to have the time and the questions, and the answers are just a mouse click away!
